No, for two reasons:

1. My time is worth more than a mechanic's;
2. My vehicles are all highly specialized, requiring a subject-matter expert to maintain. 

But I do possess a basic understanding of internal-combustion engines, and with some further study I could do most maintenance.

Point:   I saw a news report from the bay area about people with new car dealer plates (Only) and NO toll transponder getting dinged for toll evasion by the CHP.   One brand new BMW owner, who has his plates back at home FOR A MONTH, gave his excuse:  "I haven't been able to get an appointment at the BMW dealer yet". 

He got a well deserved $300 ticket.
