No. that "peak earning" job ended years ago.  The last paying job we know about was stocking diaper shelves at Walgreens, which didn't last long.

That's a horrible return if accurate.  In fact, he's actually lost a lot of money due to inflation (2005 $422k in '25 dollars is $700k).

Things looks better when you look at your house as place to reside instead of an investment.

If I sell it for break-even in real terms, then that means I profited $960,000 since my home would rent for about $4,000 a month in 2025 dollars. 4k * 12 * 20 = 960k.

Why not look at it as an investment?  For many, that's exactly what it ends up being.

IDK - I'm in commercial rezzie, and we always target appreciation as well.  It's not that hard to do if you're in a good market and know what you're doing. 

Then again, I don't have any experience outside the major global urban markets - you get outside those, and yeah, housing is pretty much worthless.
