Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

Before there can be a debt ceiling vote there needs to be a disclosure by all voting members of congress as to their insurance and healthcare holdings, and of their associates.

Next up: The government encourages prostitution as a lifestyle, because, taxes and sex.

It’s disgusting to require people to work in order to receive basic human rights.

Even Karl Marx said we had to work:

Marx holds that work has the potential to be something creative and fulfilling. He consequently rejects the view of work as a necessary evil, denying that the negative character of work is part of our fate, a universal fact about the human condition that no amount of social change could remedy.

Its disgusting to see libbies constantly expanding the definition of human rights to include food, shelter, transportation, cell phone, extended basic cable package, health care, sex changes, on and on.

Time to reset to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No material goods.

The other thing is that the whole "able bodied" thing means different things.  Often a lot of people slip through the cracks.  Requiring everyone to work will make life far harder on these people unless you are very careful to more liberally adjust the threshold for disability.

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

For instance, someone just has a MASSIVE heart attack and is in the hospital for a week after it.  Previously they worked construction.  Now it takes the five minutes to walk 100 feet to the bathroom.  Are you really going to require them to go back to work within 30 days or lose their Medicaid?

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

OR another one.  Someone gets a brain cancer and starts chemotherapy.  As a result of the chemotherapy they don't have any energy and are winded walking 100 feet.  Standing up makes them feel like they are goign to pass out.

So are you going to force them to work a job 30 hours a week or lose their medical care?

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

false argument. people on chemo are on disability and can get medicaid/medicare, and have no expectation of working, even under the new repub proposals.

Bullshyt.  You usually don't get put on disability right away just for being on chemotherapy.  It often takes a year or longer to get on disability.  Inb many cases even if you are on chemo they will deny you. Go read /r/cancer.

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

The drug they wanted me to take for my condition is a chemo drug.  If I took it I would still NOT qualify for disability.

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

Not that I want to go on disability or anything.  But I will say I know what I am talking about.  A Facebook group I am in for my condition is filled with people who were facing this.  Since most people who get this are women though they usually have husbands who are still working so that helps, but not all do.

You are under a misconception if you believe you get instantly put on disability and sent money if you are put on chemo.  No, it does not work that way.  Nothing even near that actually.  With some conditions you will be lucky if you aren't dead before you qualify for the disability or medicaid.

You're pretty sick for laughing at that.  But I guess the joke is on you.  I'm still feeling just fine and jogged five miles yesterday.  I get the feeling you probably haven't even walked five miles all month...

No serious person is saying that the very young, the very old, or the obviously disabled need to work to get Medicaid.  They are trying to eliminate the "free rider" problem.  It needs to be addressed because if the worker bee believes there are people out there living on the worker bee's taxes while doing nothing then the worker bee is going to be pissed off.

You want to improve the bureaucracy behind disability?  You'll find many many allies.  You want to say the free rider problem isn't really a problem?  People will be fighting mad.

They might not be saying it but that is the end effect.  The fact is being put on disability isn't instantaneous and many people are denied it when they should obviously receive it.  As it is now it often takes a year or longer for people to get put on disability.

That sounds to me like a bureaucratic issue.  Streamline the process, automate some tasks etc., not a structural problem that needs fixing through legislation.

Having a slack month this May as I have been laid down with a bad flu, only 50 miles according to my fitness app. 90 miles in April. I also have a session deadlifting 200 pounds x 100 reps every week.

How much do you lift?

Correct. We are a cruel nation with hatred in our hearts.

Our definition of “able bodied” is basically “not in a coma.”

People scamming disability outnumber people wrongly denied disability probably 100 to 1.  Disability scamming is a for-profit industry complete with  lawyers who specialize in manipulating the system.

Re: Work requirements for Medicaid - but first.

No you dipshyts, it's about padding the insurance rolls.

They could go to 6 month care cycles standard and save 1/4 the cost.

The republicans are heading it off for this reason, as much as blocking an obvious in road to single payer (that's proven to work). It's scamming by the providers that runs up the cost. Not individuals having insurance.

Sounds about right.  Rick Scott, a current Senator for FL was responsible for one of the biggest Medicare frauds and his company was fined $1.7 BILLION for it.
