Kind of curious about what you might think what a "comfortable" retirement income might be.

This isn't about how much you have or will have it's about what you think would be comfortable for your area of the country.

Where I am at I think a comfortable retirement budget would be $6,000/month for a couple and $5,000/month for a single as long as the home is paid for and no debt debt.

While this might be good on many areas of Florida I got a feeling one would be homeless on anything less than $5,000 in most areas of California

While you will have Medicare, assuming you are older than 65, it isn't "free".  For a Medicare plan with dental and pharmacy you can expect to pay at least $500 for a couple and $250 for a single.  On top of this remember you will have Medicare Part B and this will cost around $165/month per person but this comes out of your social security check before you see it.

With the home paid off I would say $4000 per month.

Also no car payments and you are on SS and MediCare.

$1000 for utilities and property taxes.

$3000 for food and entertainment.  Food is really not that expensive.  You would still have much money left.

But just in case have $200K stashed away.

$3,000 is a little high for food and entertainment in my opinion.  Wife and I do just fine on less than $2,000.  I think our average might be $1,600.  We don't drink except for a very occasional glass of wine and as far as going out we simply don't do that anymore.

When you get older you eat a whole lot less and when we go out we always split a meal not to save money but we don't eat that much. Years ago I could eat a 16 oz steak by myself but today we split an 8 oz steak and still take some home in a doggie bag.

We are down to eating one meal a day and that's the mid-day meal.

This morning I had one cup of coffee, 6 oz of orange juice and one piece of buttered toast.

For lunch I had two barbequed left over ribs from the freezer the wife heated up.

I don't know if I will have anything tonight or not.  We have some frozen fruit and I will probably make a frostie.

I need $220k $250k a year.

Should have that set in another three years between savings, pensions, 401k, and inheritance.

Most retirees don't want to gamble in the volatile energy markets, they want the guaranteed fixed income.
