No its not highly suspicious.

In fact, it is completely expected.

The reason why is that Covid shots are the first health intervention in a very long time that all adults have been asked to get, especially older ones. People with cancer, diabetes, congestive heart failure, etc. People in all stages of life.


Now, as for studying it, I agree. But that has to be experts in health stats. The way to understand the data is to look at their papers and articles.

This is one reason why scientists don't think VAERs can be used to obtain accurate estimates of vaccine-caused deaths -- while the calculations can be done, at the end of the day the answer will be strongly determined by the assumptions one makes in the relevant time frame and underreporting rate, as well as the background death rate. 

So clearly, if one embarks on such an exercise, they should rigorously justify their assumptions on these key quantities and perform sensitivity analyses based on an appropriate level of uncertainty.   Even then, they should consider their results as hypotheses to be tested with other data, using the active monitoring systems, population level data, or some other approach.

People may misinterpret VAERS, which is easily searchable, as a catalog of actual side effects, rather than possible or suspected ones. And it's easy to pull data out of context. Take Carlson's fearful numbers. The Fox News host did not mention the reports are not vetted, nor that among the approximately 4000 deaths after COVID-19 vaccination reported to VAERS at the time of his broadcast, nearly 80% were in people 60 and older, whose mortality from all causes is substantially higher than in younger people. "A review of available clinical information, including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records has not established a causal link to COVID-19 vaccines," as CDC puts it on its website.
