'We don't have a lot of choices left:' SF small businesses grapple with increase in burglaries

It was just last October when a thief made off with three to four dozen of the emblematic retro toys residing on the shelves of Toy Boat by Jane on Clement Street. The suspect claimed to be a repairman who was there to fix the shop’s already vandalized windows, and the toys were never seen again.

This Sunday, the recently reopened ice cream shop was hit with yet another blow.

"According to crime statistics reported by the San Francisco Police Department, commercial and residential burglaries have increased 75%"

Who could have seen that happening.

At some point the people are going to start taking care of these crooks themselves - the old fashioned way.

No police or courts needed.

Cassava, a restaurant in the Outer Richmond, was also hit with a burglary earlier this month and totaled its losses at about $3,000. Owner Yuka Sweetpea told SFGATE that three iPads used for ordering food as well as the restaurant’s iPhone were stolen. But checkbooks and a credit card were also later discovered as taken after transactions at clothing and grocery stores were processed on the card.

In the end, Sweetpea said she wasn't angry at the thief, but rather at the government for not providing enough assistance to its citizens.

Yeah, how could you blame the thief? How is it his fault?

"The government" isn't providing enough ... assistance?

Maybe.   In the end, Sweetpea said she wasn't angry at the thief, but rather at the government for not providing enough assistance to its citizens.

doh  This is the attitude that lets criminals run free.

In response to the crimes that have affected her own business, Michael said she planned on installing a roll-up security gate to the exterior of Toy Boat.

Third world.

Can you say that here?

See what is happening?  They are eroding the idea of property rights - they can come take anything they want from you if you have more than them.

Think a black gang won't be able to take your home and drive you out in the near future, in the name of 'reparations'?    lol

They are setting it all up.

The tune will change once it's inner city gangs taking what they want.

Now they are just coddled children and ineffective policing.

The gangs will have government endorsement and support to take whatever they want.   We saw it play out already in several places this year.

The difference between a conservative and a liberal:

A conservative comes up on a mugging victim and says "Who did this to you? You need help!"
A liberal comes up on a mugging victim and says "Who did this to you? he needs help!"

I don't think so.  We left because it's too far gone.  They elected a city government that allows open air drug dealing and open prostitution.  They just elected a DA that lets everybody go.

You won't read this in SFGATE, but there is a gang war over who controls the drug trade in SF.  The cops aren't allowed to do anything about it.  Cops are leaving too.

It is devolving into the same kind of government in Mexico, weak police and run by the gangs.
Watch when they start executing Judges and politicians, that is not very far off.
And then factor in the borders being opened in the near future and the inrush of criminals waiting on the other side.

I could see the drug dealing and prostitution.  After all, those could be argued to be "victimless crimes" (human and drug trafficking crimes not withstanding)

But burglary, shoplifting and robbery are actual crimes, unequivocally.  SF strikes me as a group of liberals that are trying to out lib each other in an effort to show who is most enlightened.  In actually, they've crawled too far up their own ass and spend all their time telling us their shyt doesn't stink.

If they do start killing elected officials it won't be long before the feds come in and show them who is boss.  One of the quickest ways to the government's full attention is to attack the government.  Still, it would be a rapid, forceful and humiliating culture change for liberalism in America.

Just like in Mexico - when the gangs that run things get a little too carried away, the Federales come in and kill a bunch of them, make a big show of it, and then things go back to normal.

Get used to parts of the US running under that model, especially on the west coast.   Their culture is already very accepting of that way of living.

I would hope our FBI would be a little more corruption proof than Mexico's FBI but you have a point.

Politicians living in fear for their lives wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

I have to beg to differ a bit.  Under CA state law stealing or shoplifting $950 or less at a time is NOT a crime.  The new DA won't go after ANY theft, if the criminal "needed" what he took.

We left, just as this nonsense was getting started.  Now, we're 3 states away.
