“ Myers’ husband Kristian was declared “inactive,” despite having voted in Rankin County in every election since he was 18 years old, she said.

“He was flagged as an inactive voter even after sending back the little card that they mailed to us,” Myers told Democracy Docket. “They sent him a brand new voter registration card and he was still listed as inactive.”

Kristian eventually cast an affidavit ballot, but even that hasn’t gone smoothly.

“He’s gone to the courthouse, as of now, twice. He will be going back again today because when we checked last night, it was still saying ‘rejected’…”



The GOP had one more dirty trick up their sleeves

“ As Mississippi’s closely contested Senate race comes down to outstanding provisional and mail ballots, confusion over a recent change to the state’s election rules could put some votes at risk.

In August, Republican Secretary of State Michael Watson’s office quietly eliminated a rule allowing voters to correct certain problems with their mail ballots, including signature issues. But the old rule remains published on the state’s website, leaving voters and voting rights groups uncertain about whether ballots can still be cured.

A spokesperson for Watson’s office confirmed to Democracy Docket that the new rule is in effect and that there are “no steps for curing a mail-in.”
