I've gotten a few of those and the quality is actually exceptionally good.  All Quiet On The Western Front and Candide.

Books were not obscenely expensive.  $6.25 for Candide and $14.99 for All Quiet.  That could conceivably still be under copyright.

Sure, but I like having the book.  What is a paperback exchange?  I have been known to buy books at Goodwill and that is quite cheap but the selection is limitd and mundane.
