In a stunning election in a deep-red state House district in southwestern Butler County, the race between Democrat Brandon Dukes and Republican Scott Timko was too close to call Tuesday night, leaving the GOP in peril of losing a seat they have held for decades.
The unexpectedly close special election to fill a vacant seat comes just months before Republicans across the state and country will try to hold onto crucial Congressional and state legislative seats that will decide the balance of power in Washington and key battleground states — including Pennsylvania.
As of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dukes held an 88-vote lead with all 27 precincts in the district reporting their results — a margin of just over half a percentage point in a race where more than 16,800 ballots were cast.
