The portion of U.S. economic output going to workers has plummeted to its lowest level on record, a milestone that underscores growing financial anxiety across the nation, according to Moody's Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi.
Per a chart that tracks U.S. nonfarm business output, labor's share has fallen to just 52.9% as of the second quarter of 2026.
For over five decades, from the end of World War II until the year 2000, the division of the economy was remarkably stable. During that prolonged period, workers reliably took home "close to two-thirds of the pie, while capital received the other one-third," Mark Zandi wrote in a social media post Monday.

Most people ignored me, adopted the consumerist mindset, and spent as much as possible.

The minimum wage is $7.25 and shortage of people willing to work for shyt wages drives far more automation than a too-high minimum wage.
