Hospitality is the biggest industry in Wyoming? OK, I can see it in Nevada, mostly because of Vegas and Reno - but the only things I can think of in Wyoming are the national parks and I wouldn't expect them to be exactly huge revenue generators.

The biggest industry in Wyoming is Federal gibs-me-dats, aka “transfer payments”.

While having a little less total population than San Francisco, the GDP of the entire state is about 1/5 that of the city and Wyoming receives about 5X the Federal gibs-me-dats.

I was thinking about those maps - I assume they are based on the BLS occupational data, and I can't really see how transfer payments - even if they were a very significant part of the state income - would affect that.

I think the point is that like most the red states, Wyoming is basically a low education/low achievement/low work ethic welfare state.  Doesn’t generate enough to support itself, would starve w/o handouts.

Many ranches have converted to dude ranches, now called “guest ranches” where you pay $2k a week to ride and muck stalls.

Meanwhile Wyoming generates food and energy while San Francisco consumes food and energy and generates tatted up faggots with monkeypox.

Ah, that actually makes sense - it hadn't occurred to me because it's not something I would think of doing, but it's certainly an activity that would count as "hospitality" for statistical purposes.

So what exactly is the relevance of this to the question of why "hospitality" is the largest sector of employment in a state that doesn't seem to have much in the way of obvious hospitality businesses?  Or do you just like screeching even when it's entirely tangential to the subject?

Conservatives build great empires.

Liberals destroy them.

Just look at 5,000 years of human history.

All wealthy empires, while rising, were built by racist, sexist, anti-gay patriarchies.

- 90%+ racially homogeneous

- Patriarchy. Other than the occasional female monarch, 99% of the power structure was male and racially homogeneous.

- No legalized gay marriage.

Rising racial diversity, feminism, legalized gay marriage are more correlated with the decline side of empire.

Wyoming isn't exactly a powerhouse in manufacturing, tech, or finance.

But they do have Yellowstone National Park, and other major tourist attractions.

And when people visit, they stay in hotels, and eat at restaurants.

The founding fathers:

- No minimum wage.

- No welfare.

- Blacks are slaves.

- Race mixing is illegal.

- Homosexuality is illegal.

- Women aren't allowed to vote.

Does that sound liberal to you?
