An otherwise healthy individual returns from a grueling over 10 hour flight from across the Globe and dies suddenly with no previous illnesses 

  Who could possibly hold a grudge against him... 

And further have the capabilities to attempt something nefarious while he was nearby "in the neighborhood"

He never left Kiev. He was killed accidentally in a Russian missle attack by mistake, he was not a target. Covered up by US, Ukraine & Russia to avoid international incident.

Well, it's not polonium.  I'm sure they would have figured that out already.  It emits alpha and I don't think it sets off a geiger counter but detecting it is otherwise pretty easy and it has a long enough half life that it is still there (138 days according to the web).

SamplesBoi doing the half-life math like the geiger counter's gonna wipe the board. Flies Kyiv Friday, "sudden illness" Saturday, and Deserted Start already has the neighborhood hit squad on speed dial. Nothing says healthy 71 like inventing polonium before the body's cold.
