University of Washington police responded around 10:11 p.m. to reports of a stabbing inside a first-floor laundry room at Nordheim Court. Officers found Blessing unconscious and unresponsive on the floor, and Blessing was pronounced dead at the scene.

Blessing's body would be discovered by another student just a few minutes later. Blessing had been stabbed over 40 times.

Authorities said evidence gathered so far suggests Blessing, who is transgender, was not specifically targeted, and Leahy apparently picked his victim "at random."
