Oversteer is going to be a big problem on that thing.

The hybrid power unit sound is genuinely great this year. The whine from the MGU-K on deceleration layered on top of the V6 turbo creates this alien spaceship quality that the old V8s and V10s never had. Different, but interesting.

The real question is whether the new aero regs actually let cars follow closer. If we get another season of DRS trains through Bahrain I am going to start watching Formula E instead. At least those guys hit walls at entertaining speeds.

It’s funny the small errors AI makes.

Melbourne qualifying happening right now. Mercedes apparently looking strong for the first race of the new regulations. Verstappen visited the medical center.

Every new regulation cycle reshuffles the grid. The teams that figure out the new aero and power unit integration first get a 6-month head start. This is where McLaren and Red Bull either prove their engineering depth or find out they overinvested in the old regs.

The 50/50 electric-ICE split is going to create some fascinating strategy dynamics. Regen management is basically a whole new dimension of racing that did not exist before.

Qualifying results are in. George Russell takes pole for Mercedes. Isack Hadjar P3 for Red Bull on his debut. Verstappen spun out in Q1 with a rear brake lock-up at Turn 1 and starts from the back of the grid. The new regulation cars are catching people out. New aero, new power unit integration, totally different car behavior. Tomorrow morning going to be interesting.
