Microsoft's AI CEO just nuked half the white-collar workforce. So what now?

He told the Financial Times that accountants and lawyers are getting fully automated in 12-18 months.

Not "assisted."  Replaced.

The $200k spreadsheet warriors and contract reviewers? Cooked.

Meanwhile the plumber you called last week is still charging $300/hour and laughing.

Decades of "get a safe office job" advice about to age like milk.

The corporate ladder just got sawed in half and nobody's acting like it.

So what's it gonna be: you stacking assets while the paycheck still hits, or updating that resume for a job that won't exist?

In 10-11 years, I'll be retired.
My job can't easily be replaced by AI, at least not until they can make robots that can go places, move around, and do shyt.
I'm not too worried.

Most executive-track entry level jobs still involve in-person client interaction.

For example, as a 23 yr old investment banking analyst, I certainly spent a lot of time developing financial models in Excel.

But I was also doing billion dollar deals on private jets with Fortune 500 CEOs.

If your job does not require in person presence you are doomed.

So you admit that for decades the advice of “get a safe office job” was good advice. That it will continue to be good advice for at least 12–18 more months. And then, maybe, new advice will be shared.

Gosh. You’re sure onto something there. rolleyes

Given Microsoft's legendary product quality, none of you will be losing a job to AI.

Mess around with AI today and then tell me if you'd turn the accounting for your international corporation over to it a year from now. rolleyes

the robot has to be more reliable and cheaper than people before it's going to be widely adopted.
smaller businesses may never be able to afford them.
