That may be the best question of the entire day.   The quick answer is "No".   The reason for that is my tax attorney.   Dealing with the CA tax vultures is not for amateurs.   California has a long list of items to check, that the FTB goes through, looking for any detail that they can use to allege that you are actually living in California still. 

Some of the items include:   How many nights do you sleep in the state?  (Your travel records, vehicle detection, tool collection, airline tickets and even parking tickets are all looked at).

Where are you registered to vote?

Where is your homeowner's exemption?

Where do your children go to school?

Where does your wife sleep at night?

What area code is connected to your cell phone?  Still back at "home"? 

In case of child support, custody, visitation:  Are you ALLOWED BY COURT ORDER to live outside the state?   Many Family courts put on AUTOMATIC orders prohibiting a spouse to NOT LIVE within certain counties.   They GOTCHA there!   You CANNOT violate a court order, no matter how automatic.

Where are your vehicles registered?  (Even if delinquent). (Watch this one carefully).

Where are your doctor, dentist and other professional's offices?  If you live in Florida, but still get your teeth cleaned in California, GOTCHA!!

Plus many others.   That's why you need a PRO.   These are just the points I remember off the top of my head.   They are deadly serious.
