Changing habits is hard. The first ten pounds for me were easy. The second ten pounds took longer. The current 5-10 pounds has turned into a long term thing. I try to be careful with what I eat, and I exercise 5-7 days a week.
If you reduce the calories you're eating without exercising, your metabolism can slow down, making progress harder. Also, if you're not doing some exercise - weight lifting in particular - your body will lose muscle along with fat, as you lose weight.
