Criminy And What The Serious FUK. Why is grok not as smart as chatgpt? The perception that Grok is "not as smart" as ChatGPT often stems from differences in their desi

These AI bots sound smarter than blax, by a significant margin.

Why is grok not as smart as chatgpt?

The perception that Grok is "not as smart" as ChatGPT often stems from differences in their design, capabilities, and use cases, though this view isn't universally accurate and depends on context. Here's a breakdown of key factors based on available information:

1. Training Data and Model Maturity

ChatGPT (OpenAI): Built on the GPT architecture (e.g., GPT-4, GPT-4o), ChatGPT benefits from OpenAI's extensive training on vast, diverse datasets, including internet text, books, and curated sources. Its training, refined since 2018, leverages billions of dollars in funding (e.g., $13 billion from Microsoft) and years of iteration, making it highly polished for general-purpose tasks like creative writing, reasoning, and conversation.

Grok (xAI): Grok, particularly Grok 3, is newer, launched in 2023 with rapid updates (e.g., Grok 3 in 2025). It’s trained on a mix of synthetic data and real-time Twitter platform data, which gives it an edge in current events but may limit its depth in older or niche topics. Its training is less mature, and xAI’s focus on “truth-seeking” and humor (inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) can make responses feel less formal or comprehensive compared to ChatGPT’s structured outputs.

2. Capabilities and Specialization

    ChatGPT Strengths:
Versatility: Excels in creative tasks (e.g., writing essays, generating code, crafting stories) and complex problem-solving, with benchmarks like 92% on GSM8k (math) and 86.4% on MMLU (multidisciplinary). It integrates DALL·E 3 for image generation and supports multimodal inputs (text, images).

Polished Responses: Uses reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) to produce coherent, context-aware, and professional-toned answers, making it feel "smarter" in general conversations.Ecosystem: Offers plugins (e.g., Wolfram, OpenTable) and API access, enhancing functionality for enterprise and developer use.Grok Strengths:

Real-Time Data: Grok’s integration with Twitter allows it to pull recent posts and web data, making it better for current events, trends, or breaking news (e.g., summarizing Trump-Zelensky meetings).

Technical Tasks: Grok 3 scores high in math (93.3% on AIME 2025 vs. ChatGPT’s 79%) and coding, with a 30% reported improvement in developer workflow efficiency. Its Think Mode aids complex analytical tasks.Unfiltered Tone: Grok’s less censored approach (e.g., handling “extreme” queries with humor) appeals to users frustrated by ChatGPT’s guardrails, though it risks misinformation.Grok Weaknesses:

Lacks ChatGPT’s multimedia capabilities (e.g., no native image generation, limited image analysis).

Its conversational memory resets after sessions, unlike ChatGPT’s ability to save chats for future reference.
Responses can be concise or overly humorous, which may feel less “serious” or detailed compared to ChatGPT’s thorough explanations.

3. Benchmarks and Performance

ChatGPT: Consistently ranks high across benchmarks (e.g., 67% on HumanEval for coding, 42.5% on MATH). Its o1 model competes with Grok 3 Reasoning, though unreleased o3 scores suggest OpenAI may still lead in math and science.

Grok 3: Achieves a 1400 ELO in Chatbot Arena blind tests, outperforming ChatGPT’s o3 Mini and DeepSeek R1. It excels in specific areas (e.g., 84.6% on GPQA science), but its beta status means occasional inconsistencies. Critics note xAI’s benchmarks may be cherry-picked.Expert Opinions: Andrej Karpathy (ex-Tesla AI Director) places Grok 3 near OpenAI’s o1-pro in reasoning, while Ethan Mollick notes xAI’s rapid progress but questions scaling laws for future gains. OpenAI’s Rex Asabor countered Grok 3’s claims with updated o3 scores.

4. User Experience and Accessibility

ChatGPT: Offers a free tier (GPT-3.5), with paid plans ($20/month Plus, $200/month Pro) for GPT-4 and advanced features. Its interface is user-friendly, with memory features and broad platform support (web, apps).

Grok: Free tier has strict limits (e.g., 15 questions/2 hours), requiring Twitter Premium+ ($16/month) or SuperGrok ($30-$40/month). Integration with Twitter can feel less seamless, and no API access limits developer use.User Sentiment: Some Twitter users praise Grok for real-time data and less censorship, while others find ChatGPT more reliable for complex tasks or long conversations. Reddit users note Grok’s coding potential but criticize its unrefined responses.

5. Perception of "Smartness"

ChatGPT’s Edge: Its polished, detailed responses and broad knowledge base make it feel “smarter” for casual users, especially in creative or explanatory tasks. Its guardrails, while limiting, ensure consistency and safety, enhancing trust.

Grok’s Challenges: Grok’s humorous, unfiltered style can seem less authoritative or prone to misinformation, especially in Fun Mode. Its reliance on Twitter data may introduce biases or noise, and its beta status leads to occasional errors.Context Matters: Grok may outperform ChatGPT in real-time scenarios or technical niches, but ChatGPT’s versatility and maturity make it the default “smarter” choice for many.

6. Addressing the Image Upload Question

Your earlier question about image upload limits (“why are images limited to like 3?”) likely refers to a platform like Twitter, where posts are capped at four images to maintain concise, fast-loading content. This aligns with Grok’s ecosystem, where Twitter integration prioritizes quick sharing over bulk uploads. ChatGPT, via DALL·E 3, faces no such post-specific limit but is restricted by processing constraints (e.g., one image at a time, with quota limits on free tiers). Google Photos, as you noted, allows far more uploads (no strict per-post cap, but 15 GB free storage shared across services), designed for bulk storage rather than social posting.
Relevance to “Smartness”: Grok’s image handling is limited (e.g., no native generation, basic analysis), which may contribute to perceptions of being “less smart” in multimedia tasks compared to ChatGPT’s robust DALL·E integration.

Conclusion

Grok isn’t inherently “less smart” than ChatGPT but is optimized for different priorities: real-time data, technical tasks, and a less censored, humorous tone. ChatGPT’s maturity, broader capabilities (e.g., image generation, plugins), and polished responses make it seem “smarter” for general use. Grok 3’s rapid progress (e.g., matching o1-pro in reasoning) suggests it’s closing the gap, especially for STEM users or those valuing uncensored answers.
Choose Based on Need: Use ChatGPT for creative, multimedia, or detailed tasks; opt for Grok for real-time insights or technical queries.
Critical Note: Both models can produce misinformation. Grok’s Twitter reliance and ChatGPT’s guardrails introduce biases—always verify outputs, especially on controversial topics. If you meant a specific task where Grok seems less capable, or if you’re referring to image limits in a particular context, please clarify, and I’ll dig deeper!

facepalm

So it won't actually admit what it has been 'trained' on, or where its 'guidelines' come from.

wokebot is angry with your questions.

None of these things are "smart" at all - they just arrange words into a plausible sequence and have no actual understanding of anything. This is precisely why even the term "artificial intelligence" is complete bullshyt.

The most obvious way to show this is to ask "AI" questions concerning a subject that you are highly knowledgeable about - you quickly discover that the output is absolutely littered with complete nonsense. I've got to the point where I think the whole thing is just an attempt to inflate yet another bubble since the previous ones are popping so quickly.
