# Jehovah’s Loving Arms: Finding Comfort in Trials

*“Cast your burden on Jehovah, and he will sustain you.”—Psalm 55:22*

In a world marked by uncertainty, heartache, and global distress, many feel overwhelmed. Wars, natural disasters, economic pressures, and personal losses weigh heavily on our hearts, just as Jesus foretold: “Nation will rise against nation . . . and there will be . . . great earthquakes . . . and pestilences” (Luke 21:10, 11; Matthew 24:7). Yet, amid these “critical times hard to deal with” (2 Timothy 3:1), Jehovah God invites us: “Call on me in the time of distress. I shall rescue you” (Psalm 50:15). What comfort this brings! As we explore Jehovah’s promises and examples from His Word, we will see how He sustains us today and offers unbreakable hope for tomorrow.

## Jehovah Sees Your Tears and Hears Your Prayers

Have you ever felt that your pain goes unnoticed? Jehovah assures us otherwise. “You have collected all my tears in your bottle,” declares the psalmist. “Are they not in your book?” (Psalm 56:8). Every tear, every sigh—Jehovah records them tenderly. He is “near to all those calling on him” (Psalm 145:18), responding with loving-kindness that “is forever” (Psalm 136:1).

Consider King David, who faced relentless enemies and personal betrayals. Yet he trusted: “In God I have put my trust; I shall not fear” (Psalm 56:11). Similarly, when the apostle Paul endured shipwrecks, beatings, and imprisonment, he wrote: “We are hard pressed in every way, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not driven to despair” (2 Corinthians 4:8). Why? Because “the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort” was with him (2 Corinthians 1:3). Brothers and sisters, Jehovah sees *your* struggles too. As Isaiah prophesied, “Jehovah is our Judge, Jehovah is our Lawgiver, Jehovah is our King; he himself will save us” (Isaiah 33:22, though echoed in His comforting role).

## Strength from the Almighty: “Do Not Be Afraid”

Fear can paralyze us, but Jehovah’s words dispel it: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious over this, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you” (Isaiah 41:10). Imagine grasping His hand: “For I, Jehovah your God, am grasping your right hand. . . . Do not be afraid” (Isaiah 41:13). These promises are not mere words—they are backed by Jehovah’s limitless power.

Picture Peter walking on water toward Jesus. When waves terrified him, he began to sink, crying, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately caught him, saying, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:29-31). Like Peter, we may falter, but Jesus—our Shepherd—extends His hand. Psalm 23 beautifully portrays this: “Jehovah is my shepherd. I will lack nothing. . . . Even though I walk in the valley of deep shadow, I fear nothing bad, for you are with me” (Psalm 23:1, 4). And Paul reminds us, “Who will separate us from the love of the Christ? . . . Neither tribulation nor distress nor persecution . . . will be able to separate us” (Romans 8:35).

Jehovah also urges us to pray: “Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts” (Philippians 4:6, 7). James adds, “Is there anyone suffering? Let him carry on prayer” (James 5:13). Pour out your heart—Jehovah listens!

## The Joy of Association and Good Conduct

Isolation breeds despair, but “love of the brotherly fellowship” fortifies us (Hebrews 13:1). “Better is a dish of vegetables where there is love than a stall-fed ox and hatred along with it,” says Proverbs 15:17. Surround yourself with those who “hate what is bad” and “love what is good” (Psalm 97:10; Amos 5:15, aligned with Proverbs 13:20: “The one walking with the wise will become wise”). As iron sharpens iron, faithful companions sharpen us (Proverbs 27:17).

Moreover, focus your mind: “Above all the things being guarded, safeguard your heart, for out of it are the sources of life” (Proverbs 4:23). Avoid “do not love the world or the things in the world” (1 John 2:15). Instead, pursue righteousness: “Let us run . . . the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1), training like athletes (1 Corinthians 9:24-26).

## A Glorious Future: No More Tears

Our trials are temporary. “God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more” (Revelation 21:4). The resurrection guarantees this: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous” (Acts 24:15; John 5:28, 29). In the new world, “the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4; Isaiah 65:17). No sickness, no pain—“the eyes of the blind will be opened . . . the lame will leap” (Isaiah 35:5, 6). Peace will reign: “Nation will not lift up sword against nation” (Isaiah 2:4).

Jesus promised: “In the world you will have tribulation, but take courage! I have conquered the world” (John 16:33). Hold fast—“the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13). “Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).

## Draw Close to Jehovah Today

“Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you” (James 4:8). “Keep on the watch . . . because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42). Study His Word, as “all Scripture is inspired of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Share the good news—“freely you received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).

Jehovah declares: “I shall make you strong . . . I have helped you” (Isaiah 41:10; Psalm 28:7). “Be courageous . . . and show yourself loving” (1 Corinthians 16:13, 14). In His arms, we find refuge (Psalm 46:1). Trust Him—your future is bright!
